Meeting the diverse needs of communities across the commonwealth, Virginia Tech’s Commonwealth Campus Centers bring the rich resources of the university to campus locations across the state. Commonwealth Campus Centers located in Abingdon, Richmond, Roanoke, and Newport News offer educational services that allow easy access for adult learners seeking higher education opportunities while juggling a demanding home life and a busy work schedule.

The Roanoke Center is pleased to feature the following graduate programs and certificates from the Virginia Tech Graduate School.

Virginia Tech currently offers a part-time Online MBA program well-suited to professionals in the Roanoke area. This 22-month, cohort-based program is intentionally designed for working professionals who value consistent interaction with faculty and classmates, but want the flexibility of a fully online format. Fifty-percent of the program is delivered synchronously during periodic class weekends while the remaining 50 percent is delivered asynchronously. This program is for full-time students and requires 60 semester hours of course work, including a 600-hour internship. Students complete coursework that satisfies Virginia School of Licensure (K-12), Virginia Licenses Professional Counselor (LCP) and National Counselor Certification (NCC). The program is CACREP accredited. There are seasonal deadlines. More info

This is a nationally-recognized program that was developed by Virginia Tech in cooperation with school divisions to prepare principals and supervisors for leadership opportunities. More info

This program is designed for practicing school administrators and supervisors who are seeking advanced preparation for positions in public or private schools. More info

The Virginia Tech School of Education is launching a new, innovative, five-semester graduate program in Reading Education, leading to the Reading Specialist Endorsement in Virginia. The program begins Fall 2022. All classes will be available online.

Application deadlines: 

  • May 1: priority decision
  • June 1: regular decision.

The Mathematics Specialist program is designed for teachers in grades K-8. The program leads to an MAED or Education Specialist degree (EDS) in Curriculum and Instruction. More info

Four graduate classes are offered where students are placed in Roanoke City Public Schools for both early field studies and student teaching. In addition, students will complete 20 hours of service-learning at John P. Fishwick middle school after-school program. More info

Cardinal Education delivers graduate engineering courses to students located across the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. More info

This certificate program consists of four 3-credit hour courses, for a total of twelve hours of graduate coursework. Students are required to complete all four courses with a GPA of 3.0 or better, in order to earn their certificate. The courses are designed to provide a challenging, masters level, real-world-based educational opportunity in local government management and public policy. Coursework engages faculty, practitioners and graduate students in research and study designed to improve the quality of local government management, policy-making and public service. More info
